PESTLE ANALYSIS OF BIG MART SUPERMARKET :

BIG MART SUPERMARKET, KATHMANDU , NEPAL

  • First Big mart store was launched on 10th July, 2009 at Kamalpokhari in the finest mall of Nepal, City  Center, Kathmandu.
  • First in Nepal to Provide the value and Savings concept to its shoppers.

POLITICAL FACTORS

Usually every business is affected by the political factors, so is Big mart. Since, Nepal has a very unstable political state, nothing can be predicted. Any time there could be political riots or strike in the country, which adversely affects the business running in Nepal. Like wise in Big mart's case if there is strike or bands then it for sure that the mall will have to closed. Moreover, in a country like Nepal bands could last for more than a week. So, in order to prosper in a business the political state of a country should be strong or else the supply of products will be blocked and the mall it self will be closed for a long time. Therefore, political factors is one of the important factors for Big mart to consider.

ECONOMICAL FACTORS

Big mart being able to establish it self in the center of  our city in a very short period of time, generates economy without any doubt. Moreover Big mart are opening two new marts in the Kathmandu valley.Mega mart is also considering in extending the chain of Big mart in Pokhara and major cities in the Eastern Development Region in the near Future. With this plan of increasing its branches in all over the places sure will result to good economy for Big mart.

SOCIAL FACTORS

Big mart's main concept is to provide values and saving to the shopper, but still the citizens are unaware of the Big mart's approach for making it easier and more convenient for them to purchase products. People still think that Big malls have products with a high rate and prefer buying goods from smaller shops in their surrounding. We can also say that Big mart has been trying to change that perception of people thinking huge mall being expensive. So, overall Big mart has been trying to socialize with people and satisfy their requirements.

TECHNICAL FACTOR

In this period of time, technology counts a lot. Whether it be in an uneconomic activity or economic activity, technology is everywhere. Like wise with Big mart different technologies are used. The billing system, payment through cards, CC cameras, computes etc are the some of the technologies used in Big mart. These technologies make it more easier and faster to deal with the customers. So, technology acts a helping hand for the Big mart.

LEGAL FACTOR

Every thing you buy or sell includes taxes and those tax needs to be paid or the buying or selling process would be said illegal. Since, Big mart being a super market most of the products are imported and its for sure they pay a lot of taxes. As long as the tax is paid Big mart is legal but if they avoid the tax then Big mart will be illegal and be in great danger. So, the point is that Big mart should not neglect the Legal Factor.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTOR

Big mart should try to be more Eco-friendly. All the unwanted wastes products and materials should be managed and disposed in a proper manner. All the disposal of a day should be done by the end of the same day so, that the surrounding remains clear and healthy. Moreover, the presentation and the staffs nature inside the store matters lot. If the staff cannot be polite or deal with the customer in a proper way then the customer will not be satisfied and in this business customers satisfaction is a must.

    3. PREPARATION OF ACTIVITY WEEK FIELD WORK BY GROUP

There were 5 of us in the group. We thought of visiting the Big mart and do a little bit of research by talking to the staffs but according to the policies the were not allowed to be interviewed. So, as provided by our tutor we got the PESTLE analysis templates and again went to the Big mart and just observed every single thing. We were able to get some points from our observation and later we added up with more information from the internet.
So, overall the experience of working in a group and doing research was great. Moreover, we got to know more about Big mart from the inside.
